Your information

The short version: we ask for your name and your email address, and nothing else.

What we collect

Your first name, your last name and your email address, when you choose an item. That is all. We do not ask for your postal address, your phone number, or how much you gave, and we never see your card details.

Why we need the email address

Two reasons, both The Hedgehog Haven's, and it is required for this to work at all:

  • To match your gift to the item you chose. Your gift arrives on a separate donation page, and your email address is what ties the two together. A name on its own is often not enough — people give from joint accounts, or a partner pays — so without an address The Hedgehog Haven may be unable to tell what your gift was for.
  • To ask you about a gift that has not arrived. When you choose an item it is held for you and nobody else can pick it. It stays held until The Hedgehog Haven hears from you or puts it back, so being able to ask you is the only way that item ever becomes available again.

PD Marfleet Accounting Limited, who run this site, will not use your details for marketing or newsletters — see below.

What The Hedgehog Haven does with your address beyond the two reasons above is between you and them. If you would rather not hear from them again, or want to know whether they keep a mailing list, ask them directly using the contact details on their wishlist page.

Who sees it, and who does not

The Hedgehog Haven sees it and uses it, for the two reasons above.

PD Marfleet Accounting Limited, which runs this website, does not use it. Being honest about the distinction: your details are stored on PD Marfleet's system, because that is where this website runs, so in that sense they can be reached. But PD Marfleet will not use your details for marketing or newsletters, has nothing to send you, and does not use them for anything of its own.

Nobody else. We do not sell, share or send your details anywhere.

One thing worth spelling out: when you choose an item, The Hedgehog Haven is sent an email to tell them, and it contains your name, your email address and what you chose. It goes only to the people at The Hedgehog Haven who already have a sign-in for this site — the same people who can see it here — and nowhere else.

Is any of it shown publicly?

Your email address and surname: never. Not under any setting.

Your first name may be shown as a thank-you under the item you funded — but only if The Hedgehog Haven has that turned on, only if you ticked the box asking for it when you chose the item, and only once your gift has been confirmed. If you left the box unticked, nothing about you appears on the page.

How long we keep it

Your name and email address are deleted after 90 days in every case, whether your gift arrived or not.

If your gift was confirmed, the record that the item was funded stays, with your details removed from it — so The Hedgehog Haven keeps its record of what was given, without keeping your details for ever.

If you chose an item and no gift arrived, the item is not put back automatically — someone at The Hedgehog Haven decides, because a gift can still be on its way. Your details are deleted after 90 days regardless of whether that has happened yet. After 7 days The Hedgehog Haven is reminded to look at it.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Ask through the contact form on our website and we will do it. You do not have to give a reason.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

None for donors. There is nothing to accept or refuse. Charity staff signing in to manage their own wishlist get one cookie that keeps them signed in, and that is all it does.

No tracking, and no record of your IP address

There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, and nothing from any other company loading in the background. Nobody is counting your visit.

We do not keep your IP address — the number your internet connection is identified by. To stop the same person choosing every item on a list, or guessing at the sign-in page, the site does have to tell one visitor from another; it does that by scrambling the number into a short code that cannot be turned back into it, counting the code, and throwing the count away within the hour. The number itself is never written down, never logged, and never shown to anybody.

Anything you do after you leave

Once you leave this site to give, you are on LoveGiving, which has its own privacy notice. Whatever you enter there — your email address, Gift Aid declaration, card details — is between you, them and The Hedgehog Haven. We never see it.
